We have a client whose site we are migrating to DNN4.4.  They have a list of currently registered users. When the new site comes out, they want to migrate their profiles (doable) but they want these users to reauthenticate themeselves, to ensure that their email addresses are still valid.  They need this as they send out regular news shots.  We would like something like a RSVP to be sent to these users the first time they try to login into the new site.  Is there a way to do this?  New users are not an issue, it is just the old users logging into the new site for the first time.

I am not 100% sure how it works by default, but what I would do is create a new user on a verified protal and see what db values change and then you should be able to modify the existing records to match that setup and then they can request the validation code.
