If I want to have a site that nobody (except me) can log in to, or register on, can I do it? If there is a way to remove the login or register butoons, then how would I log in?

Thanks

Just remove [Login] token in your skin html file. don't forget to parse the skin after you remove the token so ur skin ascx file will be updated automatically.
To login, modify url in your browser, add "?ctl=login" after default.aspx

Thanks, I don't know much about skinning yet. That's all kind of Greek to me. Does the skinning doc that comes with DNN tell me about how to do this?

Yes, the skinning doc gives a broad everview of DNN skinning including the use of tokens such as [Login] and [Register].

Or take a look at tutorials like Create your first DotNetNuke Skin with Dreamweaver for the basics of DNN skinning.
