I am a newbie with DNN (4.5.1) and I am about to give up and go back to developing the olf fashioned way. While I am sure that if I did that I would not be missed, let me ask one last time. The dreaded ERROR:

A critical error has occurred.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

is driving me crazy.

I have tried to find answers from the forums, Google and other sites but no luck.

I have a site that I do for FREE for my Sports Club and I just cannot spend a lot more time trying to sort out these errors.

Firstly is there a STEP by STEP way of recovering your Gallery after it crashes with the above error?

Yes I saw the post about ASP.NET worker but it is not specific. HOW DO I DO THIS ALLOCATION OF RIGHTS?

Secondly is there a STEP by STEP FAQ to actually setup the ideal environment?

Thirdly I would like to develop Modules so is there a STEP by STEP way to get started?

Any help here will be appreciated. Buying a commercial version is not an option. I am not charging my club to do this stuff.

If you get the error while running the beta version of the gallery, you need to remove the module from the page, and possibly remove it from the "modules" loaded for the DNN and start over.  But to me, that is all a waste of time as it will surely happen again.  Either spend money for another version, or used the "patched" version--which will probably come the offical version (sooner or later)  www.Jegers.com

Step by step faq.  Yes there are FAQ and install instructions for the DNN install.  For the gallery there is a FAQ on the gallery homepage--they are working on making it easier to read, but the basic information is there.  The only real thing you need to do is make sure that the ASP.NET user has write access to the directories where the gallery is stored.  (in Windows Explorer, right click on the directory, select security tab, etc.etc)

Developing modules.. Yes there are TONS of documentation out there.  There are numerous books written about it (check out Amazon,etc).  If you go to the DNN main site there are lists of websites that have real quick (1 page of instructions) on how to create your first DNN module.

I did try your Gallery but could not get it to work. Could it be because my servers are all South African Locale?  When I installed your system EXACTLY as the ReadMe said, it crashed my whole system. Luckily I did not delete anything from the original Gallery, I just renamed them with an underscore prefix.

Apologies James, it was MY FAULT. I merely place an UNDERSCORE instead of DELETING the files you said to DELETE. DNN then tried to Compile the UNDERSCORED stuff as well. Well that did not work. Now I followed the instructions given and EVERYTHING works. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am no longer giving up.
