I also agree with all of the above but I can truly understand the lack of a desire to specify a release date.  As we all know things come up when you are going to release something and if you put a hard set date then a big issue is identified you have to push the date and that even creates more issues.

I am one of the individuals that is anxiously awaiting the newest release as I feel it will be a great improvement, and hopefully it will even fix a few issues I have with the current product but I can understand the process and the lack of actual detailed release information at this time.

The forums in the past have had a few major security exploits in my opinion and I was burned by one of them, so I fully support them taking all the time needed to complete a full security review!!

I also agree, however I'd like to have some idea about what's going on in the reselase process. To Know if we need to wait days or weeks make a lot of differences Weeks agos  somebody mentioned me that because the new forum was completely rewritten, we need to wait longer...But this was heppend weeks ago...

My only reference is this FORUM, the day that DotNetNulke jump to the newest forum version, I will know that the forum is pretty close to be released.. but now... I am lost in the jungle.

Hey TEAM (Forums, Core, etc.), can you give us an update of the release process?

Thanks

It would be nice if there was a place that we could see the current stage and total process.

I think it would be benefical for the following reasons:

1) Would help to stop the "are we there yet" posts since you could simply check the progress

2) Would allow people to see all of the modules that have been submitted into the release process.  For example the Reports module was submitted but I seemed to have missed the announcement.

3) Showing the different stages would also help the community understand how long, or why things take so long.

I am glad that DNN is focused on a quality product. I wish there was away for people to view the progress of the tracking module.  Since I'm not a benefactor maybe they have access to the progress?  Do the benefactors get access to the source before the rest of the community?  Just wondering since typically open source projects provide "daily" or "weekly" builds to some members of the community.

Just my $.02  I can't wait to see the new functionality, I've built a complete workflow around the provided documentation and am excited to see if it actually will work.

I think we probably need a tracking module to track efficiently LOL. I haven't seen it either, but I trust the team are pretty capable of throwing out something decent here. The blog post (1 of 2 about the project, see the link in my previous post) shows that the core team are not keeping us in the dark, and I'm sure they will be asking for comments when the first release comes out. I know what it's like on projects like this, if you have too many cooks you never get the time to get the first release out. After that comments become the invaluable driving force of an iterative process. You could also post your comments on the blog I mentioned as well.
