HI Michael,

I've just spent over a week convincing Alan Vance from the Events module team that his module was generating a script error on its settings page. He did finally agree it was an issue and promptly did something to fix it... I don't know what however.

Now I notice that the survey module also generates the exact same error when the settings page is opened. Firefox reports the error as follows:

Error: missing ; before statement
Line: 1081, Column: 38
Source Code:
var dnn_ctr785_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_valClosingDate = document.all ? document.all["dnn_ctr785_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_valClosingDate"] : document.getElementById("dnn_ctr785_ModuleSettings_Settings.ascx_valClosingDate");

The error didn't actually happen on Alan's pc... so perhaps this error doesn't happen on yours either? I can set it up for you to see on a portal if needed... and this is of course the latest DNN and the latest Survey etc.

Regards,
Rob

The module uses the standard ASP.NET compare validator to generate the Java Script

:CompareValidator id=valClosingDate runat="server" CssClass="NormalRed" resourcekey="valClosingDate.ErrorMessage" ControlToValidate="txtClosingDate" ErrorMessage="
Invalid Closing Date!"
Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" Display="Dynamic">asp:CompareValidator>

  The only think I can think of is that the "< br >" and the "!" in the ErrorMessage is causing a problem. Can you open up the "Settings.ascx" file and remove it and see if the problem goes away? Also take out the < br > and the ! in the "Settings.ascx.resx" file.

hmm ok, I've tried that now... removed both the breaks and the exclamation marks. There error remains.

I'm sure Alan will know what it was, but he might need some prodding. I'll try anything else if you like. I've just now checked it on a 100% fresh DNN451 and the error is there. This is what finally convinced Alan to have a look.

Darn if I could think of anything I would make a change, but asp.net is creating the Java Script.

Ok, Alan says: "Basically this was a validator control that had "Client-Side" validation turned on,  but no script enabled...if you want to pass this on to Michael and others."

Does that help?
