My brain is working slow today.  I am hoping someone will give me a high level overview of packaging a module for both 4.x and 3.x.   I have written the module in ASP.NET 2x.  Do I have to physically create an ASP.NET 1x version of the module to get it to work in DNN 3?

Anyting else I should know about getting a ASP.NET 2x module working in all versions of 4?  I see people mentioning modules not working with anything before 4.2.

Thank You,

stuart

I am assuming that your question is more pointed about version packaging and not about the packaging process itself. The quick response is that you cannot have a module compiled with ASP.Net 2.x work with ASP.Net 1.x applications which is what DNN 3.x happens to be. However, the reverse is fine. So if you intend for your module to be usable on both DNN 3.x and DNN 4.x, then you would need to develop it in ASP.Net 1.1.

There may be specific issues (bugs), but in general, there has been no (intentional) breaking change that would cause modules to behave differently in versions (>= 4.0 and < 4.2) versus versions (>= 4.2).

Nick,

You hit the nail right on the head.  Thank you.  Unfortunately, I developed this module in 2.x.   Therefore, I will need to recreate in 1.x.

Once I get the module created in 1.x what is process to make it a 2.x module?

If you have the WAP add-on for Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Studio 2005 SP1, then you can just import your DNN3 module project into your VS 2005 Solution and recompile. There will be some warning flags about obsolete methods, but otherwise it should build without any problems.
