Hello everyone,

I've been playing around with the repository module and have got some questions / observations about it.  Perhaps someone with a little more experience can enlighten me...

1. Is there a progress bar for upload progress?  This would be very handy

2. When you moderate a file, it seems that you have to send an email to reject it?  Can you just reject something without having to send an email back to the uploader to explain why?

3. When you reject an upload, what happens to the file?  Does it stay on the server somewhere, or is it deleted?

4. The module doesn't seem to like big files sizes.  I've tried setting the web.config to a larger number, but trying to upload 80Mb always fails?  Any ideas?

Thanks and best regards,

Rod

Rod,

As for the last item which is really the only one I can comment on.  It does appear to have issues with large files, however, the issue isn't directly related to the repository, it is due to the nature of web pages and browsers and connection speeds.  I have published an article explaining a work around for this issue, where you can manually FTP the files up to the site and insert the records into the repository via SQL.  It isn't the most elegant but it works if you have REALLY big files that you need to be providing.

1. No there isn't but it is on the list of requested enhancements

2. At this time an email isn't optional. I'm not sure on Steve's thinking on this so it's only a guess but there's a couple of reasons why I'd want to send out an email. The first would be because it's the courteous thing to do and the second (which also ties into the first) would be so that the person doesn't think something went wrong and tries to upload it again.

3. The file is deleted.

4. You may also have to add an executionTimeout in the same line that you adjusted the upload size. executionTimeout is measured in seconds and I think the default timeout is only 60 seconds in .NET.

Thanks for the replies, they've been helpful.  I've added the executionTimeout setting to my web.config and set it to an hour.  This setting was missing completely from the config file, so I'm not sure what happened there.

Basically what I'm after is a way for my clients to upload large files to me (databases etc) as an alternative to email.  I don't intend using the Repository module as a frequent use, public upload module.  I only intend to us it in times of technical support when I need to get a large file and email in inappropriate.  To this end, I don't really need (or want) to let clients know that I've "rejected" their upload, when all I've really done is receive their file, processed it and now need to delete it from the site.

Perhaps there's another module better suited to this purpose?

Another thing that seems like it could do with a bit of refinement is the skins.  The skins for the module are a great idea, however for a simple file upload, I've used the "filelist" skin which seems most appropriate.  The problem with this is that the user needs to check the "All" checkbox before a file can be uploaded.  Is there a way to remove this category, and just have a default category that you don't have to prompt the user to select?

Basically, I just want the simplest, easiest way to upload a file, with a minimum of mandatory information - name and filename would be great.

Thanks and best regards,

Rod

executionTimeout isn't part of the web.config by default as usually 1 minute is enough.

I've added your request for the rejection email to be optional to Gemini. http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Default.aspx?p=22&i=5624.

The ALL checkbox issue is fixed in the next version which is currently going through the Release Tracker.

If a minimum of information is all you need then you can create your own template that just asks for a name and filename. That's the nice thing about the templating process that Steve set up.
