the edit should be EDIT, sorry for that (I should copy code not type it...) and I think it should work in 4.3 too (not sure), but I cannot test it at the moment....

For my purposes I used this:

    If DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.TabPermissionController.HasTabPermission("EDIT") Then
        ControlPanel.visible = false
    End If
%>
<%  If DotNetNuke.Security.PortalSecurity.IsInRoles(PortalSettings.AdministratorRoleName) Then
        ControlPanel.visible = True
    End If
%>

It differentiates between a user with edit rights and a user with admin rights. Thanks for the help! Another code to add to my arsenal.
