Hi!

I have a working DNN installation with several portals where I want to change the MachineKey. How do I do this? The reason for changing the machineKey is because of strict security policies.

The machinekey is located in the web.config file of your DNN installation. You should remember that you will need to change the machine key and the validation key of the web.config file each time you upgrade your DNN installation so make sure to keep a record of them just incase.

I'm not sure if you can just change the machineKey of a current working installation because as said above you need to change its value from the value as set in the release.config file (which you rename to web, config) when upgrading your  site.

Maybe someone with greater knowledge of the core can explain how a machineKey is chosen, where its used in the DNN code and why exactly

I can clear away all users and start over with new users. But the portals them selves must be intact.

So you want to keep the content just delete the user accounts?

If you change the machineKey you won't be able to log in as admin or host either

Well, I wouldn't ask if there weren't a problem

So how do I get around this?
