I forgot to drive home the importance of a feature I requested as part of a longer list back in November:  (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/93/threadid/9320/scope/posts/Default.aspx)

Anti-Spam - comment security feature - this feature will display a randomly generated alpha-numeric image.  When posting a comment/reply, the poster will be asked to enter the security code to authenticate which will help to prevent autobot posts - which if you have a successful blog can cause major pain in the ....

Can we get this in?  In minutes bots can go through and add reply's every post in your blog.  It could take hours to remove them.  I understand that you can turn comment approval on - however sifting through blog spam can be VERY tedeous.

Thoughts?

I agree. I wrote a blog from scratch for a client, and a very simple solution to the problem was to search the comment for 'href=' in the post. If you find it, show the user an error page telling them they cannot post links and let them go back and fix it. It is a simple solution to a complicated problem.

Users who want to post a link can still type in the http://www.whatever.com... it just has to be copied and pasted into a browser, something most people are comfortable with today.

This should be a high priority, as I will not implement dotnetnuke until some solution like this is implemented.

HP,

What about adding CAPTCHA?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha

Would this be that hard to implement as a standard?

There is a new provider being written and probably released with the next version of DNN that, among other things provides a CAPTCHA object.  It will then need to be incorporated into all of the modules that want to implement it.

So it's coming to a blog near you I am pretty sure.  :)

Cheers,
