Hello,

Since I first created the database, when first getting DNN going, what database login occurs, has been transparent to me. So
I am not familiar with all these concepts for database login credentials and
orphaned users, etc. Learning something new
every day :)

The following from my web.config doesn't appear to refer to a login name in my  current Express setup, from my original DB
install
?

  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|TurningPoint.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules   -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|TurningPoint.mdf;" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"/>
    -->

From what I understand so far, I need to uncomment the Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 in this web.config and
add login details my provider supplies to me for a new database they create for me on their computer running the fully
functional SQL Server?

cjsmitty has suggested "You can certainly us the same login you had on your original DB install,".  However, as I mentioned
above,
I am not aware of an original login. Is this "orphaned users" issue relavent to my situation?

Certainly you've noticed there are a couple of ways to connect you with a MSSQL database. The connection string itself is DNN independent (a very helpful website is http://www.connectionstrings.com/ regarding the syntax). Below is a bulletproof recipe to do the connection with the MSSQL Server 2005 and as well the express edition. I prefer this notation because I've both versions  in service:

...
<connectionStrings>
<
add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=yourserver;Database=yourdb;uid=youruser;pwd=yourpassword;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</
connectionStrings>
<
appSettings>
<
add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=yourserver;Database=yourdb;uid=youruser;pwd=yourpassword;" />
...

In your passage you've two different ways to login to the database. The first only applys to the express edition. So you can counterwise comment/uncomment these tags.

I hope it was helpful for you - this notation is much more easier to maintain (e.g you migrate from express edition to standard) and it's much clearer (one server, one database, one user and one password == no confusion)
