Ok - so it passed everything well up to that point - installing the db, says:

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See e:\web\public_html\sts1\DotNetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See e:webpublic_htmlsts1D" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

Above is exact text as copied from the install progress log  The progress animation thingie keeps rolling, so I have no idea if this is fatal or what. This was an entirely brand new install, new DB and everything.

What can I do to correct this?

Fixed. I aborted the install (it was running for an hour and no progress), and tried to re-run it, and got an error about a missing stored proc. So... I noticed that web.config had changed since I'd put it up, and figured that the install had modified it. I restored it, and restarted the install, which completed the database part.

I'll start another thread about the next problem (none of the modules could install except user-defined table and links. Not even HTML/Txt).

I've just had the same problem today when I tried to install a new DNN installation on my web host. I tried the same install on a local dev machine last week without any problems. My local install was using SQL Server Express whereas the hosted version is using the full blown SQL Server (2005, I think).
