Are there any other skins available so I can use a "large" view calendar?  If not, I guess it is time I learned how to manipulate skins...mind telling what file to begin with?

I just started getting this error as well - was using the fixedblue but changed to grey based on your recommendation. I still at times get this error. I am not using recurring or notification or images or lists. I am running 4.4.1 and previous version of events (not beta)

If I get the error, the whole page is shot, showing just the containers. I can go into the module settings for events and then click save which will restore the page and the month view will show but with no data -- the error message is still there. If I click on any day in the month view, the calendar is restored with the data. wierd... only happens occasionally. page and module load errors show in the log.
