Hi,

I've got a large number of PDF files (technical documents) that need to be converted and integrated into a DNN solution. Has anyone of you done anything similar ?  I'm not sure which way to go.

Thanks for sharing your experiences

Leif

just for clarification: converted into what?

Can't you just put links to the pdf files, or do you need to be able to search them?

Hi Erik,

Converting into html I suppose, I've found a couple of tools capable of this but haven't done it in real life I'm not sure where to start.

Yes the text needs to be searchable.

Cheers

Converting to HTML is an option. I have no experience with that, however, if you look how google presents pdf to html conversion, it leaves much to be desired

Just to be sure: if all you need is searchability of the pdf files, you might consider using MS Index Services for that (you can install a pdf index plugin that will allow for indexing pdf files). Next you can use a dnn module to plug into the MS Index Service. If you need robust document management you might look at DMX of Bring2Mind / Peter Donker (www.bring2mind.net), if you just need simple search option, i have a modified search module available (quickSearch) that plugs into ms index service (check at my site, www.apollo-software.nl)

Erik,

thanks very much for your reply. I will explore your suggestion regarding the MS Index service and your search module.

Cheers
