Please help.  I have 4 sites that are currently down.  I upgraded the same way as always and now I am getting:

An error has occurred.
error=Value+cannot+be+null.%0d%0aParameter+name%3a+type&content=0

You can see the site at:
www.stsomewhere.com

Is there another step this time other then just copying over the SQL String and the two keys?  I see others have had the same issue with no resolution.

Thanks.

Hi it seems like you managed to fix it - how did you do it?

It would be nice to have some history here on it for others who come up with similar problems.

It appears the cause was that someone tried accessing the site in the middle of the upload of the new version.  I wish I knew the exact solution.  I ended up searching frantically for a way to turn off the website from my shared web host.  Once I found it...

  • Turned off web site so noone could access it
  • Uploaded the 3.2.2. install again
  • Turned it on and quickly...:
  • Manually directed browser to www.website.com/install/install.aspx

This brings up an interesting point.  On websites that get hit frequently, like this particular site, I think it would make more sense for an upgrade trigger then for the site itself to say "ew I have new files lets upgrade".  This has happened to me in the past.  An end user doesn't know to wait, or that the install script is something they should wait for.  Is there a workaround?

P.S.  Nina, love your skins.  Is there a way I can access the flash file so I can personalize it?  (www.tropicalterry.com).

Ok you know you can set the web.config file script to be autoupgrade to false.. I would recommend this on any live busy site - but all you need to do is then type in the full default - eg. install/install.aspx I think.

And thanks for your nice comment about the skin - I have the the skin for sale with the flash file for $20.00 on my site - http://www.xd.com.au/buy.xd and it's got an update skin and a couple of enhancements on it.

I'll add your site to the links of sites using it.

Back to the auto upgrade function - I guess it's there so that the site will initially install, but it's one of the things I first do when I'm updating it - is turn auto upgrade off so it doesn't behave badly - but to be honest,  I think taking the site off line for the short time you are doing it is an even better result - since it really usually only means having an index.html, index.htm, default.htm or default.html file in the root directory which I just change the extension so that it doesn't work unless I'm doing some work on it.
