I have created duplicate membership, profile, and role providers.  I then added a method in the exceptions to send me (1) the user information, and (2) the exception.  The providers are capturing the exceptions, but there is not any reporting to it.  I am now able to gather that information.  I am still getting this error.  I am looking through the DNN source again right now.

In the provider, it continues to add the DNN user to the DNN membership and the ASPNET membership just fine.  Then, since the user is new, and the status of the other inserts were successful, it attempts to add the user profile settings.  However, when I capture the UserInfo before the profile update line, I can see that the UserID is -1.  This is what is indeed causing the insert exception, but I do not know what is causing the UserID to not be updated in the UserInfo instance.

How very bizarre... mine doesn't do that, always does get the id.  So maybe your first thought (separating the profile fields) would be a good idea, but you'd need to call your line of code where you are grabbing the user based on username first, and then update it using the UserController.UpdateUser(portalid, user).  Mayhaps the stored procedure is not returning the userid for some reason, I'd take a look at that in the database and see if it is setting the return value or selecting it...

Which version of DNN are you using?  I am using v4.05.01 (will upgrade later, unless the problem is with the current version).

I am currently on 4.5.3 and to be honest, I never did try it on 4.5.1; we only run the import once per month and it fell into place that we just missed using it in 4.5.1.

Well I did see similar posts for issues related to users and user profiles in relation to module projects, but using my current version of DNN.  I will try upgrading today.  I will post my results.  Thank you so much for your continued assistance.  I appreciate it.
