On the top, in the left corner, there are several icons related to the Page - Add, Copy, Settings, etc. The right most of them is Design. Click it.

Thanks, clicking the design button did the trick and the default admin user can see and edit content.  I have never really noticed that button untill you mentioned it.  I'm still alittle confused as to its purpose though?  Thanks again.

Sorry, no there is light here ... it is so that you can see how your page looks like without that pesky content getting in the way ;)  The worst part is that the design ON button icon looks almost identical to the design OFF button icon ..
