Have to deliver a forum installation this week but hesitate on to use the existing forum module downoad or waiting on the one that is comming to be released. Is ti relatively easy to upgrade from the existing one or will the new release be quite different ?

Johan,

there will be an easy upgrade path from current forums to the next version. Please make sure to use latest current version due to a security fix included.

I will not wait for the new version... It had been promoted since March (even before), and there is no date to be released... could be couple weeks, or months...So go ahead with the current version (that include a lot of small issues) . DNN is NOT hurry to upgrade the forum module, they have other priorities, and certain they will wait more to make any sinlge change to the forum module. Why? don't know....

Regards,

Alfonso

I believe this is a pretty unfair description of what is going on with the Forum.

The new version of the forums is the migration to .NET 2.0 and from what I have heard is a fairly major re-write with many bug fixes.  They are taking the time to get it right and to hopefully prevent security issues from cropping up.  Personally I'll wait as long as it takes for the new module to ensure a good module is released..

I am looking forward to the release just as much as everyone else ( my selfish opinion more... ).  Chris has put a ton of time into the new design and from what I understand did most of the work solo.  The existing forum is a good product, and like all software has a few bugs.  Why do what I've done, install the forum, create your custom code around it.  Just noting that you'll have to do a recompile.  You can check the website www.dnnforums.com for the tech docs.

From the looks of things, we are almost there. Maybe instead of complaining, we should try to lead a hand.  A majority of us are software developers, Sys Admin, etc.  Is there anything that we can do to help with the release?
