As part of a new intranet site I'm proposing where I work I'm building a case for a transfer to DNN. They currently use the old asp.net portal so most of the stuff is there but DNN has features that would make it more useful for us (the developers) rather than for the sales and marketing team as it now stands. What I want to do is create a projects section similar to the DNN project team pages on here. I'm looking at collecting a minimum of data (project name, project id, team leads, eta) and then automatically generate all the required pages and permissions from that. I'm thinking it should be possible to use the scheduler to monitor for a document which could then generate all the pages from a template. It would also need to update the full project list and create the forums and blogs required. The most limiting part of this at the moment would be the fact that we don't have a copy here to show and test but I do have my own site so I could create a test environment there for a show and tell if I can find out how to do it. Any ideas?

There would be nothing straightforward here... but hypothetically it would work.  The site sections, modules, navigation, etc. could be handled with an import template.  The template would basically need to have a tag in it that you changed so that the the items would be unique ( i.e. You need to import page of different names, the import functionality would otherwise overwrite ).  Messing with the templates is not for the timid and its not well documented.  But you could definitely get it right... you can test this by using the wizard functionality against your test templates... but you will wind up messing up your portal and having to reinstll when its too "foo barred".

I've not looked into the import/export functionality on forums/blogs but the same basic thoery applies.
