Hi. How easy will it be to upgrade to the new version when it comes out? I have a new site that I'm going to start, and am not sure if I should just start with the current release (3.01.10?), or should I keep holding out for the new version? Most of my work will be in developing skins and setting up custom attributes and I just want to be sure I won't have to re-do it when the new version comes out.

Thanks,
Simon.

It's an extremely easy upgrade (log in with Host credentials and Install the module) and it won't affect any of the data you already have in your Repository. The only possible hiccup you could run into is if you've modified one of the default templates and didn't rename it to something else.

Thanks Mike. I read something many months ago on here that the next version would have a completely revamped data model. Is this still the case or is this something to go in a later version? Just wondering if although upgrading the module may be easy, that any work I do now with the old version will prevent me from designing my repository differently later on. Do you follow?

Cheers,
Simon.

This release does not change the basic functionality of the Repository module. It adds support for unlimited sub-categories, plus a number of big fixes and a couple of other minor enhancements. You can read the release notes on the tracker page ( click on the release notes tab ) at
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Development/ProjectReleaseTracking/tabid/997/ctl/History/mid/3337/ItemID/156/Default.aspx

The next release, 04.00.00, WILL be a major re-write of the module and will include the abiltity for you to define your own data schema for each module instance.

although the 04.00.00 version will be a completely difference code base and the data storage mechanism will be significantly improved, we are committed to providing a seamless upgrade path from 3.01.12 to 04.00.00 when it's ready.

It looks like the 03.01.12 version will be released in a day or two. It just passed the dogfooding stage and is in release preparation. Now it's just a matter of all the housekeeping to make it available for download. :)
