How would I go about adding the latest events or the latest, say 10, forum posts to the front page of my website?

I can't believe I'm the first person to come across this need. Is there a standard way to achieve it?

Thanks in advance

There's no standard module, but you can use the News Feed to do the job. Just configure the value of the News Feed module to the RSS page of the Forums. The same for Events, I believe.

For the events I discovered you can add another events module on the home page (set to list view) and then add the main events control as a "sub-calendar"
