I am a DNN "newby" and am in the process of putting up my first real portal application.  Unfortunately, I will need to utilize parent and child portals.  I understand how the security roles work within a portal but can someone point me to the best source to describe how to implement users and security across child portals?  I need to be able to define a single user-id that can access one or multiple portals.  Is there a concept of shared user-ids across portals???...shared security roles across portals???...

Finally, can I share actual content across child portals?

Thanks in advance!

The supported metaphor is that portals are self contained.  That is that they share nothing.  There is a "feature" that we support that will allow you to register the same user name in more than one portal if the same password is used ( it makes the assumption that this is the same user ), but the roles within the portal are unique to that portal.

As far as sharing content across the portals... it would be a function of the modules.  But I don't know of any currently that do that.

Thanks for your feedback.  It was very helpful.  Now that we are up and running with both a parent and a child portal, can you tell me what that "feature" is that allows me to share a single user-id across portals?  We do have a requirement to allow a single userid/password to be able to access more than one portal.  Thanks!  Ricky

The featue Scott talks about has been implemented for quite some time.  It allows someone to use the same username on multiple portals if they know the password, however that user must go through the registration process for each portal before they can access it.
