Can someone point me to instructions on porting existing web user controls over tothe DNN 4 framework? I would like to initially plug in the existing ASP.Net 2.0 user controls without using the DNN DAL. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

the "DotNetNuke Module Developers Guide.pdf" doc in the documentation folder will show you how to convert asp.net user controls into dotnetnuke modules. You can shortcut conversion by using one of the usercontrol module loaders such as this or this

The documentation is helpful if your are building modules from scratch. I need to leverage existing user controls without initially going through the DNN DAL. Is there a way to access the System.Data.SqlClient namespace directly? The task of rewriting the data access is daunting and will be addressed in phases.

that's fine - theres no requirement to use the DNN DAL, it's just a recommended way as it allows for easier conversion to other data sources. You can use any data connection code you like. Possibly the best way is to use the data application block as it's already included . If you take a look at the 2.12 version of dotnetnuke you can see how we used to use it.

Cathal, I would be interested in talking to you about this offline. Could I (along with my business partner) schedule some time with you for a conference call to discuss this further?
