Hi,

How do I write my own module exceptions into the DNN Event log?

What I want to do is to write exceptions by Module name preferrably into the event log so that I can filter them in the event viewer

Create an instance of the EventLogController, then you can use the AddLog method to add some logs (several overloads available)

private DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.EventLogController _ec = new DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.EventLogController();
_ec.AddLog("SomeModule", "SomeMessage", this.PortalSettings, -1, DotNetNuke.Services.Log.EventLog.EventLogController.EventLogType.ADMIN_ALERT);

Why not use DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions.ProcessModuleLoadException(- seems simpler (see the different overloads available). The entire code for logging in an exception and not displaying an error message is:

catch (Exception exc)  {

DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions.ProcessModuleLoadException(this, exc,false);

}

Just like that!

Hehe... sometimes I am not very good at reading what they are asking.  Going back after your reply, I realize he was looking for processing exceptions, not just general messages.  My bad.  -- Mike, Viktoz suggested what would be the "correct" way for processing module exceptions, the way I pointed out is for tracking module actions... pretty useful debugging on a "live" or "production" server that you don't want to actually remote debug.

Hmm, why didn't I think of it before?! What a great idea!
