We're working on creating our own modules for DNN (version 4.5.3, if that matters).  We've got custom settings on these modules.

We're creating portal templates from portals we setup with these modules and would like default values for these custom settings to travel along with the portal template.  Is this possible?  With our testing so far, it seems that the custom settings values do not come along.  Is there are way to have default values for custom settings, so we don't have to go in to each portal after creation and set like 50 properties each time?

Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm not certain if you can do that or not, but in the event you can't, in your logic that grabs those values, you could have a class that does all the work for you, something like "GetValue(int userId, string propertyName, string defaultValue)" that will find the property for the given user and, if the value is nothing, returns whatever your default was.  On that same token, you could create some constants to hold the default values for different properties.  This would ensure you NEVER get a null value back if you don't want one.
