Ok, im getting closer guys!

Here is my connection string as given to me by the place where i get my database hosted.

Connection String - "Data Source=tcp:sql2k508.discountasp.net;Initial Catalog=SQL2005_381568_gamesbuzz;User ID=********;Password=******;"

And in my web.config file my connection string is as follows:

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Data Source=.\tcp:sql2k508.discountasp.net;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|dnn434;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005-->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=tcp:sql2k508.discountasp.net;Initial Catalog=SQL2005_381568_gamesbuzz;User ID=********;Password=******;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFiorylename=|DataDirect|Database.mdf;"/> -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=sql2k508.discountasp.net;Database=SQL2005_381568_gamesbuzz;uid=********;pwd=******;" />

Can someone please tell me what the "correct" connection syntax should be based on the above information?

Kind regards,

Jy.

connection string looks correct, if userID/password is valid user for your database.

The error indicated, that login is not successfull.

Yeah thats what i thought, everything looks correct.

Maybe it has something to do with the new database? Does the user need any special permissions?

Thanks guys.

the user you specify in connection string needs to have dbowner permission and the sql server needs to accept login from the web server (external access if on different machines)

ok, it has db_owner permission and the sql sever allows remote connections.

The only other thing i can think of is that since the site is now located on a new domain, connectiong to a new database, do i have to change the machine key decrypt / encrypt values? If so, how do i do this when i dont actually host the IIS or the SQL database? Do i connect to it using SQL SMSE?

Thanks guys?
