I am new to DNN, would like to know the procedure to deploy DNN project in production server, meaning do I need to redo the roles, create new pages, permissions, module installation again in production server or is there any easy way to migrate the settings from Dev to production server.

Any help will be highly appreciated!!!

Thanks

In DNN :

  • You can export a module with the content
  • You can export a portal with the content (pages and modules only, i think)
  • Or you can backup and restore the full installation (install directory + db)

Hi

All your settings and module content is referenced from the database. The only thing you will need to change is the web config file in the root of your DNN installation. This should only be your database connection details.

Once you have a host, and have restored the back up of your local database all you need to do is change the database connection string in you web.config and put your web address. i.e. www.yourdomain.com in to the portal alsias in host settings and it should work.

My host , ihostasp.com will do it all for you. Just make a backup of your local database, upload it to the db folder and they get your site going for you

Hope that helps
