I'm pretty sure that the answer to this is no, but wanted to make sure before I have to go off and find another blogging sub domain to plug in, but there currently isn't a way for the link of the blog entry to be:

somedomain.com/name_of_blog/this-is-the-entry-title.aspx

or better yet with a date stamp of some sort as a directory?

The title, etc.. are key for both user friendly and search engine optimization, and I realize I can do this by using Friendly URLs, but if I need to teach the people using the blog to always put in a friendly URL and re-write the main links, I suppose I can just use Text/HTML instead, and it will actually be faster!

Just making sure I'm not nuts....  Thanks in advance for anyone who can desceamblemble my brain...

Hi Seth,

I am afraid I cannot answer your question above as I am just starting out with DNN and currently in research mode before moving ahead with it all etc to make sure I have a good grasp of many important features etc before I do so.

Although you raise a good point above and as I am very big on web accessibility due to what our companies portal's target market audience will require to be best practising, also adding as you say about the <title> tag being one of the most important in a whole webpage, I would like to keep my eye on this post and see what other more in the know people come back to you with answer / resolution wise.

This will be a good issue to place away in my hard drive (my brain) and put to good use as soon as I get to develoiping the site in a few wks time.

I hope you find the answer you need :)

Hello All,

These are 2 great questions:

  1. Blog-style title-to-URL
  2. Blog Title in <title> tags

The answer to both is that the Blog module in its current state does not statisfy those requirements, however, I can safely say that they are planned for development in the next generation of the blog module. Although there is no target date for this we are well underway with the planning of this new project.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply Antonio, I do apprecate it - I just wish there was something we could use without bolting another solution or home-brew piece on to the site: (www.turtlebeach.com for those of you interested in gaming headphones or sound products...</shameless plug> ;)

We're very happy with everything DNN offers, except for the dang URLS!  Anyway, thanks again for the response, I'll go away and see what else I can dgit up.

- Seth

Seth,

Thanks! -- I'll hit up the team and see where they are planning to go with the FriendlyURLs, but in general, I do agree with you that we need a more readable URL format.

:)
