DNN 4.5.3

'Error Deleting User' is a message I see after trying to delete a user who was once the portal Admin. The user will not delete. There is no other information in Admin > Event Viewer.

I had already created a new user and assigned portal Admin privledges to that user. (Admin > Site Settings > Advanced Settings > Other Settings > Site Administrator)

I logged in as both Host and the new Admin user, and both get the 'Error Deleting User' error. I can delete other users, but not this one user. Any suggestions?

there seems to be a glitch in the delete procedure - I have seen this behaviour with another client, but have not been able to analyse it yet.

I think I'll roll back to a full backup made just before the attempted delete. There's been no activity on the portal since then. I only wanted a new Admin Username, but that's not easily done - renaming Usernames.

My associate Sebastian suggested I look for an instance of a module with a reference to the user I was trying to delete.

After looking and looking, I found an instance of a 3rd Party module - not in the active portal pages - but in the Recycle Bin.

When I emptied the Recycle Bin (Admin > Recycle Bin > Empty Recycle Bin), I was then able to delete the user that would not delete, and that was previously giving me the error in this thread when attempting to delete.
