I've spent hours tonight trying to install DNN to my website. My web host has an auto install script for 4.5.3, however, part of the script actually installs 4.5.0, then auto upgrades to 4.5.3. It does so without saving any of the encryption keys from the web.config file. So, of course, the default login and password don't work because the keys in the web.config were changed by the auto upgrade thing.
I've contacted my web host but have not heard back yet. I've deleted all files and databases and ftp'd all the install files and tried to install that way, but the auto install didn't work, couldn't connect to the sql express database using the default connection string in the install file. It worked fine on my local host via VWD Express...
Of course, I can't recover a lost password via "forgotten password" since I was never able to login and change the email addresses for those admin and host accounts.
Is there a way to regenerate the passwords or encryption keys? And why don't the upgrade scripts copy the encryption keys in the first place?!? Why would the programmers actually have the keys overwritten knowing full well that the admin and host users will no longer be able to login and modify their website?!? It's pretty frickin ridiculous, and after so many people have this problem, why has it never been corrected?!?
Anyone know a way around this without reinstallation of the entire thing, because that isn't an option for me, tried it and it doesn't work.
