Hi folks. I think my "odd page behavior" post in the Install forums is related to this issue.  With the Scheduler enabled and Medium Caching, I saw many Application Events. I also noticed the Scheduled Tasks kept restarting. I have disabled scheduled tasks (host > settings) and can use Medium Caching (can *not* set page viewstate to memory) -- and do not see any more application start events.

This was originally a 3.3.5 site which I upgraded to 4.5.5.

Is it really advisable to disable scheduled tasks? What will happen to searches? How will log files get cleaned? And more generally: Are there any rules on how to optimize the performance settings. We would obviously like our site to serve pages as quickly as possible. But how do we know when we push it too hard? What is best in setting it to perform better, without overloading it? There are several parameters that I am particularly interested in:

  • Page State Persistence
  • Module Caching Method
  • Compression Setting
  • Scheduler Mode

I finally found the cause of my problems: I have a dedicated server, and in IIS > Application Pools > Web Garden > Worker Processes, either I set or the default is 4. So that caused a bunch of issues when the 4 worker processes were not in sync. I set it to 1, and I have enabled all performance options + Scheduled tasks; so far everything is working great.

Hey guys,

I having the EXACT problem where DNN just keeps restarting. the website is sometimes unabailable and other times it shows up just fine... when i look at the event log, i see:

1/29/2008 11:25:25 PM    Application Started           ...
Server Name: WEBSERVC05
1/29/2008 11:20:19 PM   Application Shutting Down       Shutdown Details: The AppDomain shut down because of a change to the App_Code folder or files contained in it.

I tried the replacement of text in the app_code director but im not quite sure i replaced the correct text. i was running 4.6 and last nite ~at midnight~ upgraded to 4.8 in an effort to fix the problem. Since their are quite a few 'heavy hitters' in the sence that core dev guys are replying to the problem, im sure there are many more people who will have this problem.

Also, the wesbite has the following error messages

The AppDomain shut down because of the hosting environment.

Thanks in advance guys!
