I have created a new site and database that works perfectly on my development PC (localhost) but once I uploaded the site and database to my hosting provider I get the following message when I try to access the live site.

[ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type]
   System.Activator.CreateInstance(Type type, Boolean nonPublic) +2768503
   DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateObject(String ObjectProviderType, String ObjectProviderName, String ObjectNamespace, String ObjectAssemblyName, Boolean UseCache) +582
   DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider.CreateProvider() +38
   DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider..cctor() +13

Interesting bit though is this. With the local (localhost) version of the website web.config file set to access the live database I can view and update the live database using the local copy of the site!! thi sugeests to me that something didn't upload to my host but I can't see anything missing, unless I haven't looked in the right place.

cheers

Have you tried installing from scratch on your provider, then uploading over the top of it?  Making appropriate web.config changes for database connections of course...
