I currently sell my DNN modules through Snowcovered and I really like their service.  Meanwhile, I also have some mapping software that I've developed for ASP.NET that is not limited to the DNN environment that I would like to sell directly from my website.  After the sale I would like to direct user to a download page that would keep track of downloads.  It would also be nice to have some sort of help desk process attached to each product.  I'm looking for recommendations for a DNN product/module that might serve best for selling software and then allowing users to download the product.

Thanks,

Darryl Parker

Some people use the http://www.inventua.com paypal module, and others use the catalook shopping cart, which has a downloads page, along with limited times/access for digital downloads in the later builds.

As far as a help desk - you'll have to look for a third party add on - Active modules has that module but I've not tried it. Onyaktech has another help module as well. I use a third party one - non dnn - from http://www.smartertools.com - it's generic and has it's own url - but seems to do the job, as it's actually has a standalone help product - smarterticket.

Just a couple of suggestions - but for a single product or a few you might find catalook may be an overkill. I'm testing another ecommerce app - but not sure if it provides digital downloads management - I can look and check over the weekend.

Nina, thank you for the information.  Catalook may be overkill, but if it has a way to control downloads in connection with the sale then it might be what I need.   Of course, a light weight version would also do since I do have just  few products at the moment.  I would be interested in finding out your test results on the other ecommerce app.

In fact, the paypal module might also be adequate as long as I could somehow send the user directly back to a download page.  I once tried this kind of option but then found that the download page was easily hacked.  It is important to have a secure download.

Depending on your requirements of course,  but I use the core PayPal integration and roles to handle sales directly from Smart-Thinker (with the help of Ventrians Subsciption Tools) and it works very well. I channel all help desk calls through my Forums (this is the only place I will handle support calls).

Rodney, thanks telling me about the process that you use.  What I would like to see is a "Buy Now" button next to each product that ushers a buyer smoothly through the payment and registration process without first saying "You must first register on this site in order to purchase these products" and them make them hunt for the register button.  I know that might seem trivial, but to some it is a barrier and a hassle.  I prefer the process to be as smooth as possible and to only ask for personal information after they are ready to checkout with products in hand.

Then, I would prefer that after they return from Paypal or wherever they not be told they must login first to download. (Or worse yet, to log out and then login in again!).  I'd rather the system automatically log them in upon return from Paypal and allow them to immediately download the product or products.  I have seen systems that make it quite achallenge to find the download page and product file after purchase.  It should be smooth and easy.
