There you have it - in an attempt to speed up the DNN performance, clean up all unnecessary modules, then.

This should also mean that other processes on server will slow down, no? in orther words, if a ton of modules interfere with DNN, it should also affect regular ASP sites? I've noticed that while DNN3/4+ sites will slow down (.NET 2), .NET 1 sites, as well as regular ASP sites will be running without any problems. This seems to indicate that my problem is NOT many modules (while it may very well be the problem for others)... Right?

all ASP.net 2.0 applications should use a separate Application Pool, where limitations might apply as well, check the app pool configuration.

My next question would be what is defined as a lot of modules? I have 93 modules listed in my modules definitions listing. Some instances of these modules are being used more than once.

Will the amount of module instances also decrease performance?

I still have a lot more modules to install!

Would adding a child portal and splitting the modules between the master and child portal increase performance or is the performance based on a "Per DNN install" rating?

Is this slow down telling me to increase the perfromance of my hardware?

I would like to thank both of you for your input in this thread. It's extremely helpful for me and possibly others. It will allow me to plan my deployment of my website features efficiently.

How many modules are many?  I am not really sure that anyone can give an answer to this question.  This depends on the server that it is hosted on, the size of the modules that you are using etc.  I have also noticed that using pre-compilied modules does help a bit on the performance side.

As for will module instances hurt performance again this depends on the modules, but traditionally this will not have that much of an effect, yss it will add to the database size but as long as they are not including major data elements or doing things to core DNN tables it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Now, for other site issues, I would check to ensure that your site log and event logs are not too full.  They can have direct performance impacts as well.

I would say as a rule of thumb if you are on shared hosting with 100+ modules, you might be pushing some limits.
