Hi
i am having alot of difficulty setting the STMP settings. I can send emails to mydomain, but not outside address. I have been in contact with my services provider and have been asked "What files does it write the mail config to?"
I asked about the mail relay and got the following reply
"Unfortunately it does not as our mail servers need the mail to be authenticated in order to have it out of the system. "
I can get emails to people who register, but i can not send Newsletters to uses outside my domain.
I am trying to use Active Forums mail connector program as well.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,

It sounds like you must have authenticated e-mail setup in your host settings for SMTP ensure that you have the server, username, and password set.  Then also make sure that you have selected "Basic" for the authentication type.

Hi Mitchel.
I think that is the problem, but somehow this is not workimng.
MyHost provider is checking as well
I have tried mail.mydomain.org.au and name and password and basic authentication. The Host provided asked me to use localhost as server and mail server for Active FOrums. Still newsletters only go to those with email addresses on mydomain.org.au. (new registrations get confirmation of their longin) and Active Forum email are also only to mydomain.org.au. Newsletters and active forum emails to eg NNN@bigpond.net.au, don't arrive.

Hence the domain provider has asked what files is writtten to - with the mail config settings.

Regards
Paul

The SMTP settings are actually stored in the database in the hostsettings table.
