This is just my two cents. I have been running 3 DNN websites off of GoDaddy with a manual install for 1 1/2 years now. During that time, it has been touch and go, and mostly unstable websites for the most part.

I have been wanting to move my websites, but with the DNN sites so unstable, I was afraid of taking that chance. Well, I finally had enough and made the move.

First off, recently Godaddy has a new feature now that allows you to back up your database and download it as necessary. I decided to move my website to webhostforasp.net. The support team there even offered to move it for me. I only needed to copy my current DNN files and my database (.bak) that Godaddy created for me. Well, they were unable to set up the website because the .bak file that GoDaddy created was no good. Even another backup was made, and still the .bak file was no good.

A year ago, I had purchased another backup program from Evotiva. It had been making automatic backups for me since I had it install on my site. It was a life saver.

This weekend, I followed the instructions from Evotiva and it restored my website on the webhostforasp.net server without any difficulty.

I guess what I am saying here is, if you are using GoDaddy as your hosting provider, do not trust their backup system. Have a backup to their back. Thank God for Evotiva!

Just my two cents.

I have wasted dozens of hours trying to get installs of DNN to install/work/backup, etc. on GoDaddy. If your time or your site is worth anything to you, DON'T BOTHER. I am even a reseller for them but would not recommend them for use with DNN. There are numerous tales of woe you can find on the boards on this subject. Their inability/unwillingness to help with DNN is legendary. They do offer DNN as an 'add-on' with their cheapest plan, but you cannot ftp into the directory so it is worthless for all but the most basic DNN site.

You are going to pay about 200 bucks per year for a good host for a DNN installation. Yes you see them advertised cheaper but by the time you get the database, etc. paid for, you are at $200.

I have used discountasp.net with great success. Installations are a snap, panel is great as is support.

I have 75 domains and several html sites hosted just fine with GoDaddy but hope I can save you some time and aggravation by getting you to bail on them as a DNN host.

Hi Leemedic, i am a godaddy victim as well, i installed my dnn to root path (with good efforts) and i am able to host multiple dnn webportals (with FQDN's) for just 7 $, 100 GB space is really good, but support and performance of godaddy is almost zero,

I have asked many questions to them, but they just respond with pre-defined simple templates.

What a shame:(

Sir, I highly recommend you have another method of backing up your database. Don't trust theirs. It did not work for mine. Thanks to Evotiva, mine was saved.

Well, I just moved my third and final website off of GoDaddy servers. Now I can sleep at night! It has been a nightmare. It feels good knowing I don't have to deal with them anymore!
