I exported a template from a 4.5.5 version of DNN and tried using it within a 4.5.3 version instance and got the following error:

CharlottesvilleTest.template is not a valid Portal Template File.
Validation Results
 The element 'tab' has invalid child element 'issecure'. List of possible elements expected: 'panes, parent, tabtype'.
 The element 'tab' has invalid child element 'issecure'. List of possible elements expected: 'panes, parent, tabtype'.

Is this likely a versioning problem?

there is no backward compatibility of templates, make sure, the target is using the same DotNetNuke version.

I should have read it closer. Sebastian is correct about there not being any guaranty of backwards compatability of exported templates. I think if you update the schema this one will work though. You could also delete those issecure nodes from the 4.5.5 template and then import it into 4.5.3

The bug is still there if you try to export a 4.5.5 and re-import it into another 4.5.5 though, so the schema needs to be updated.
