Ok guys.  I need some help.  I decided to try and install 4.0.2 and try it out.  To me it doesnt install as easy as 3.2.2.  I have gone through the insall manual step by step and I still get an error.  Here is the error.
"

Could not find file 'C:\DotnetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'C:\DotnetNuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\DotNetNuke_template.mdf'."

What kind of file is this mdf?  I have never heard of it before.

Any help is appriciated.
Dusty

You need to create the Database in App_Data (look in the Documentation folder of the website for help), or alternatively create a SQL Server 2000/2005 database and create the correct connection sting in web.config.

If you alreay have your datbase created, thera are two other possible reasons:

1. No folder access premissions

Right click on your site flolder and select 'Properties', then 'Security' and make sure the ASP.NET Machine account is there and granted Total Control

2. No IIS application created

   -Open Start/Run and type inetmgr.
-Make shure you have a Virtual folder set to your site folder in the Default Web Site section, if not create one.
-After that, right click on Properties and click on Create button near the application name, then errase the application name (it must be blank).
-Set the permisions selector to Command and Executables
-Set the Protection selector to Low (IIS) (the first option)
-Select the ASP.NET tab and make sure ASP.NET 2.x is selected for DotNetNuke 4.x or 1.x for DotNetNuke 3.x

Hope this helps

Ok..i have already done all of what has been suggested.  Maybe a little background will help about my system  I am using XP PRo with SQL server 2005 Express and IIS 5.  When I get this error I can hit the refresh button and I will get the Upgrade error that says the AssemblyVersion does not match the DataBaseVersion.  I have installed 3.2.2 many times with no problems.  I dont have VS2005 on this machine.  I didnt think I needed it.  Any other info would help.  Ill keep plugging away at it.

Looking at the error, one of the two connection strings (in web.config) is expecting a SQL Server 2005 Express database, so I would guess that the connections Strings are incorectly configured and pointing at the wrong database.

The error should only occur if the database specified in the connection string cannot be found on your system.
