Can anyone help me work out the best SQL Server licensing options. We are looking at implementing a co-located server running DNN and one another asp.net application. Obviously we need SQL Server but what license option is the best? There are two possible scenarios that might be used. The users in the office will need to access the data in the DNN database but we might be able to do that through another DB server back in the office linking to the onlne data.

My question is whether it is best to go with the 5 CAL license (€600) or the per-processor license model (€2600) from Dell? Significant difference of €2000 involved on a total spend of €5000 on other hardware and software. Anyone any thoughts on this?

I believe if you connecting from a web server then your only option is the per-processor license.
