Thank you for your help!

 I have resolved this issue and wanted to post my solution. First, one of the main problems is that I am using GoDaddy for my hosting company (this I do not recommend), I was informed by them to use smtpout.secureserver.net for my DNN SMTP settings. However, this did work for emails going to accounts within my domain, but it would not send out emails to accounts outside my domain. Godaddy was no help with this matter and finally found through numerouse Google searches that I have to use relay-hosting.secureserver.net - this solved my problem.

Also be sure to use anonymous aunthenitication for your SMTP settings.

I sincerely hope that the upcoming new forum version will also fix this notification problem (by using the DNN core mail).

@ Chris: please don't get me wrong, this is no offense. The notification bug is just a very nasty one

Tom, none taken. This bug was introduced in one of the DNN 4.x upgrades but I am not sure which one, somewhere between the core 4.4 and 4.5 releases. Because of this, there is no real 'quick & dirty fix'. There are several issues around notifications, and I have since re-written everything around them. Just so everyone is clear, all emails outgoing use the core methods.

Tom, Crispy is absolutely correct.  But as far as the code goes, I am just using the code I posted here.  I will try to go back and use the rich text editor to make things stand out.  But again, heed Crispy's advise on this.

We had to have a demo with email notification, and this works for us.  But I would not put my name on it in production.  If you have a way to test those changes for development purposes, give it a shot.

The only changes I really made was to use DotNetNuke.Services.Mail.Mail.Send() instead of smtpClient.Send(mail).
