Hello. I'm trying to build a custom HTTP Module that will intercept requests and log-in users based on IP address. When I add the HTTP Module to a DNN 4.5.5 project and I step through the code, the IP address is listed as "::1" regardless of which event I use. Does anyone know why I can't see the IP Address of the request? Will I be able to accomplish this using an HTTP Module?

Thanks!

The userhostaddress of the Request object has the ipAddress.

dim  ipAddress as string = Request.UserHostAddress

You could do this in a HTTP module - or alternatively do it as a SKIN control on your sites skin.

One of the advantages I find with doing some of these sort of things in a skin control is

- you can easily make use of the whole DNN framework and context inside a skin control.
- in a custom HTTP module - you are pretty much on your own

Thank you! That worked.

I would do it as a skin control or DNN module, but eventually I need to add functionality that can intercept a request that may be directed at a resource outside of a DNN page. For example, we have a need (at least in transition to DNN) for searchable document collections on the web server (not in the DNN database). If a request comes into the domain directly to a resource, I'll need to intercept the request.
