The problem happens for all instances of the editor, not just text/html modules. That particular screengrab was from the announcements module. I could have grabbed it from any module.

And... the screengrab shows a different skin on the toolbar, but it makes no difference what skin is used, the problem happens regardless of the skin. It firest happened long before I ever tried a different skin.

The FCKeditor skins is one thing, the DNN skins another. I was talking about DNN skins. Also, have you tried what I said about compression, DNN engines?

Normally, when using the editor, there is a radiobuttonlist above the editor.i.e. from this page:

I cannot see yours from your screen sample. can you confirm that it is there?

Hi, thanks for continuing to look at this.

Yes you are of course correct that the buttons are normally there. I always hide them by adding runat="server" visible="false" to the table row they they are in.

After reading your post I went back and made them visible to see if I could switch back to the rich text editor and yes, I was able to... hurrah! Thankfully now I won't have to delete the user to restore the editor - I should have checked this before :)

So, that changes my problem to this:

What causes the editor to switch to plain text, for one user, without user-interaction? And is there a way to ensure that it never changes?

Thanks very much for the replies,
Rob

There is a DNN feature called personalization. This allows the system to save custom properties as per user. Somehow the user activated the named property related to basic/rich mode. Many modules out there don't use the controls/texteditor.ascx and re-create the same functionality on its own interface. Most of them use the same property name for personalization.

The change you made to the texteditor.ascx is not as safe as you were expecting.

Hope this helps
