I was having problems with DNN 4.5.3 and decided to wipe it out and do a fresh install of DNN 4.5.5 today.  It didn't quite solve the problem with the whole "you don't have permission to access the files" issue, at least not until I did a "recursive synch of files"  via Admin->File Manager.  The permission error didn't come up anymore, but now all areas that ask you to select a file location point to the "cache" directory within the portal root instead of the actual "root" directory like it is supposed to.  I tried a regular synch, restarting the application, hard refreshing (ctl-f5), etc.  It just will not point back to the root folder.  Anyone have any ideas why this would happen?   I have gone into the file system and made sure all the folder permissions were set correctly.  This has just become a nightmare of a problem to deal with, especially when it was a fresh install from scratch using the files in the "install" zip file.   I read another post that talked about double entries in the sql tables but couldn't find anything like that...  Here's a pic of what is happening:

wrong file location

Thanks,
Rick

Well, I never did find a reason for the "root" not showing up as available in the dropdown list for file location.  I did delete the entire website, reinstall again from scratch, AND turned off all caching before uploading anything.  Leaving the caching off until every file is uploaded and there are no error messages or odd anomalies with the caching folder... frustrating problems with file permissions and path/file locations since 4.5.3.
