Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie and just installed the DotNetNuke 4. I know I can create those text menus (menus with text only) easily, can I create image menus (E.g. use image background instead of using the text) in DotNetNuke? Do I need to use any modules? Is there a user guider that I can read? Thanks.

A menu with images is easy if your good with CSS, I do this with housemenu normally, but it should be possible with the default DNN menu too.

I never did this though...

Thanks Timo, is housemenu a module/plugin? Do you have any suggestions of learning DOTNET NUKE?

Hi Bremy,

There are a few ways you could go about this.  If you want to use Solpart, you have to have an instance for each root item.  There are some discussions about this at these links.  Snapsis Discussion   4dImpressions Tutorial  There is more information on skinning Solpart's menu than any other, from what I have seen, but it is also the hardest when it comes to working with Images.  Strange thing though, because once you get a handle on it, it seems to be the easiest one to learn, or at least it was for me because there are so many examples all over the DNN landscape.

If you are going to use the DNNNav Menu, John Henning came up with a solution you can read here.  John's Blog

And you can also use the House Menu which is free but you need to play with it a bit to make it work as there is not a lot of documentation on it.  House Menu

Or you could buy the Snapsis CSS Nav Menu from John Mitchell.  His solution is extremely flexible but does have a cost.  Snapsis CSS Menu

Hope it all helps.

Clay

I have a post for images in the housemenu here

If you want to learn DNN skinning, download the documentation, it has a skinning doc, or buy a book, "Professional DotNetNuke ASP.NET Portals" seems to be a good choice.

And there is a lot of info available for the Housemenu if you look for "unordered list menu"
