Hi,

We're talking to a company that we may use for Search Engine Optimization. They made the following comment about DNN. Could someone please tell me where DNN stands in relation to SEO? Here's the comment...

I had someone do some initial research into DNN. Joomla provides the develolper and search marketer with the ability to install mod rewrites.... the ability to transform long urls with lots of 'variables' in them $%$#@ etc. that are not search friendly, into shorter urls with search friendly words.

An initial assessment of DNN reveals that of the three content management systems, Joomla, PHPNuke (dotnetnuke - DNN ) and Drupal, Joomla is the most versitile and has better seo components. it runs better on Linux Apache platforms instead of Windows. In terms of seo, Windows can't use any of the search engine friendly url components because mod-rewrites only work on Apache.

Thanks

The mod rewrite thing is true until you get on ahost that has IIS7.  For current windows platforms there is an alternative to mod-rewrite called ISAPIRewrite.

DNN can be configured for SEO, and there are lots of people that can help you in the DNN community.

Tom Kraak at http://seablick.com, has a DNN Quickstart guide for SEO.  And there are other components for DNN that can help you with SEO like HrefExchanger, and PageBlaster (my module).

The people you are working with are probably just more familiar with Joomla, but what they are saying is technically correct.

John is completely right.

Also, having used both Joomla and DotNetNuke, I find DNN so much more intuitive to use on a day-to-day basis, and so do any of my clients who have used both (they have all opted to migrate from Joomla to DNN).

I'm not entirely sure, but I thought I saw that the upcomign DNN 4.5 has a more comprehensive rewrite control built to the core, perhsaps even contributed by Scott McCullouch who has contributed much from Ventrian Systems.
