Hi, I want to grant a user which does not belong to Administrators a permission to the File Manager. I am doing this beacause I want this user to be able to upload graphic files, and to insert them to text using fckeditor. On the File Manager page I have give edit and write permission to File manager but the user can't even see the File Manager page when he logs in. I think about two solutions: one is to obtain a third party File Manager that will give access to the file structure that I can see in original File Manager, but I don't where to look for it and i am not sure if it will work as described above; two is to change the structure of the admin.template, but I don't know if can safely override this file with the updated one (I am aware that if I wont be carefull I may destroy my portal). Can you give an advice which soltion is the best? I rather cannot afford to by a commercail File Manager module.

Thanks for help in advance.

you only need to grant write permission for the upload folder in the file manager, and the user can use the upload option in fck image browser (use "browser server" button), to upload his images.

When I am logged in as host and I click on the "browser server" button in fckeditor then pops up a window with the current page without text and images (only menu and modules without content) and with Critical error information: "String cannot be of zero length. Parameter name: oldValue". I can see that while this popup appears there is a redirect from URL with "fckeditorimagegallery" in it to the page with this error. I have come accros this problem but never have any idea what to do with it. Can you suggest me the solution?

Hi rypki,

I've seen that happen before, but I no longer recall what caused the problem. In any case, you should definitely sort it out instead of looking for alternatives, because it may indicate a bigger problem with your portal. It simply has to work as you expect it to. Something is faulty if it doesn't.

Not being a developer myself, I would normally try and troubleshoot such a problem by building up a second portal alongside it on the server and seeing if it has the same problem. If you create a fresh DNN portal using the latest 455 install package, does it still happen, or does it work correctly.

It is vital that you set the proper file permissions on the portal before you trigger the installation and also check them again regularly. That is a common cause of strange behaviours.

Rob
