I used the starter kit template for creating a custom module.  I've successfully gotten it to work, but I just plain don't understand one section of standard code.  I can't even figure out what it is trying to do.  This code extract is from the "View" template in the "lstContent_ItemDataBound" function, where the records are being displayed one after another.

Thanks in advance!

//add content to template
// No idea what this "if" statement is doing!
if (((string)Settings["template"] != null) && ((string)Settings["template"] != ""))
{
   strContent = (
string)Settings["template"];
   ArrayList objProperties = CBO.GetPropertyInfo(typeof(CourseCatalogInfo));
   // Why is this variable here? It's not being used.
   int intProperty;
   foreach (PropertyInfo objPropertyInfo in objProperties)

{
      strContent = strContent.Replace(
"[" + objPropertyInfo.Name.ToUpper() + "]"

, DataBinder.Eval(e.Item.DataItem, objPropertyInfo.Name).ToString());
   }
}
else
{
   // This part is clear, it's putting the data in the "Content" column into strContent.

   strContent = (
string)DataBinder.Eval(e.Item.DataItem, "Content");
}

The code is checking if a ModuleSetting (which needs to be set via the Settings page) called template is set, and if it is set it uses the template in the DataList.  The foreach loop, parses through each property to see if there is a corresponing token in this template, and replaces the token, with the property value.

The intproperty is not needed (mea Culpa).  The code templates were original written by shaun in VB and I translated them to C#.  I converted a For intProperty = 0 ... VB construct to use the foreach construct and forgot to remove the variable.
