Hi,

I'm implementing a module and would like to use typed datasets instead of the data provider classes. According to the DNN documentation, DNN does not force one to use their pattern. I've been struggling to get my dataset working. I created it in the App_Code folder and created a BLL class to access the methods of the dataset, but it's not working. I get the error: [type or namespace name 'MyDataSetTableAdapters' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) ]when I place 'using MyDataSetTableAdapters;' at the top of my c# BLL class and and instantiate one of the table adaptors.

How do I go about using datasets instead of provider classes? Please help...

Thanks,

Ntombi

At a guess the problem relates to not having your web.config setup correctly for handling c#.

Since DNN is a .vb based application by default - you need to make sure you tell the runtime system to recognise and process you c# App_Code business rules correctly.

In your web.config file look for the following section:

      <!-- register your app_code subfolders to generate granular assemblies during compilation
      <codeSubDirectories>
         <add directoryName="sub-directory name"/>
      </codeSubDirectories>

You will need to add an   <add directoryName="sub-directory name"/>  entry for each folder in \App_Code that contains c# based business rules.

And remove the COMMENT around the whole codeSubDirectories xml block as well.
