I want to INSTALL DIRECTLY TO REMOTE HOST ... am I dreaming or just fantasizing? I've downloaded 04.05.05_Install zip and extracted it. Now I'd like to get the web.config "marked" up and upload the entire folder to my remote host. I've been using the Installation Guide I found in a link in this forum but I'm not sure I'm finding all I need. Is there a guide for installing directly to a remote host?

I did find some tutorials in dnncreative.com that show this for 3+ but they don't have all the asp 2.0 and other related changes required for 04.05.05.

I looked at Mitch's site and found a lot of good notes but they seem geared to upgrade.

Thanks, Bob R.

Yes, this is an area of documentation that needs to be built a bit better.  I will actually be releasing an "install 4.5.5 on hosting provider" tutorial this weekend....but to get you going.

For the most part the installation is the exact same, with a few exceptions.

1.) You must get the db connection information from your web hosting provider.  (This might be via a control panel, or via an e-mail to support)
2.) You must make sure that your website is setup for ASP.NET 2.0 (Again, possibly control panel or e-mail to support)
3.) You must make sure that your hosting provider has granted ASP.NET full permissions to the ROOT directory for your domain (Again, possibly a control panel item, but most likely a e-mail to support)
4.) You then can update the web.config file to reflect the SQL Server information they provided
5.) Upload the entire site via FTP (NOTE: be VERY careful, FTP clients like to skip files and not to tell you.  I personally recommend the following process for uploading)
-Upload an app_offline.htm file to display a hard set message (This is to prevent accidential install)
-Then upload the new files, 1 folder at a time, confirming all files transfers at the end
-Delete the app_offline.htm file

Then simply call <yourdomain>/Install/Install.aspx?mode=install  and you are set to go!!
