Since 2004, I've been working with DNN, but I think that it can't solver the probem about performace. My portals (www.lojadenegocios.com and www.portalwebmarketing.com) are slow and I can't improve a good performace, and I don't like the idea to install a thrid part software.

I created a question in LINKEDIN: DOTNETNUKE: Do you believe that Dotnetnuke is a professional content management? Do you know a good example with DNN?

http://www.linkedin.com/answers/technology/software-development/TCH_SFT/86962-659605

And the answers are not goods. Well can you give me you answer? You can answer here or in Linkedin.

Well, I hope to receive better answers. :) Salmeirao

If you're having performance problems with your DNN install, the first place you should be looking at is the hardware you're running it on.

Why would you not like the idea of installing third party software to help with performance? Is it cost? Or some other reason?

If it is cost, you can get PageBlaster for Free.

I think there are two issues with DNN that many users may not understand. First is the issue of asp.net putting the site to "sleep". If your site takes a long time before it even starts loading anything this is probably the issue. You need to get a "keep alive" solution - either a module based one, a desktop based one, or a web based one. Search the forums for "keep alive" as I'm sure there are many opinions as to which one is best.

If your site is slow even after it starts loading then I think Ed is right. Most of the time slow load speeds are due to the fact the site is hosted on a server not optimized for DNN and/or it is a low $ shared server that is over burdened. I have never tried John's product because I have never had a need. I selected a hosting company that specializes in DNN and my sites have always been fast enough for me.

Can you please elaborate on "optimizations" which make for a good (or great) DNN server. I am planning to host a DNN installation on my own server, which would contain 500-1000 child portals, each having a forum, blog and few repository modules... what kind of server optimizations would you suggest for such a use case?

Thanks in advance,

Raghu
